Vertafore launches AI search tool for insurance professionals
Vertafore announced ReferenceConnect AI on April 14, an AI-powered search tool that connects insurance professionals to verified industry knowledge. The platform draws from more than one million documents across 75 publishers and 60 commercial lines of business.
The tool delivers answers up to 80% faster than traditional search methods, according to the company. It returns results with citations from vetted reference materials, letting underwriters and agents cite sources when making coverage decisions or advising clients.
ReferenceConnect AI handles 3.5 million searches annually. It's built on Vertafore's Velocity AI platform and designed to reduce friction in underwriting, service, and client interactions.
How it works
Users ask questions in plain language. The system searches its database of insurance content and returns answers with links to the original sources. This matters in a regulated industry where decisions must be defensible.
"In risk management, you can't rely on best guesses. We need factual, defensible information," said Renae Parent, managing principal for national casualty practice at EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants. "What stands out with ReferenceConnect AI is that it's grounded in trusted content that underwriters know and rely on."
Unlike generic AI search tools, the system is trained specifically on insurance content. It avoids the hallucinations and false information that plague general-purpose AI when applied to specialized fields.
Expansion planned
Later this year, Vertafore plans to connect ReferenceConnect AI with AI tools built by agencies, MGAs, and carriers. This will let users access answers directly within their own systems rather than switching to a separate application.
The launch reflects a broader industry shift toward embedding AI directly into existing workflows. Rather than treating AI as a separate tool, companies are integrating it into the systems where work actually happens.
