Wolters Kluwer Adds AI Search to Insurance Compliance Tool
Wolters Kluwer's Financial & Corporate Compliance division launched NILS AI Assist, a generative AI feature that lets insurance compliance professionals search regulatory documents using natural language questions instead of traditional keyword searches. The tool draws from 600,000 curated regulatory documents and a taxonomy of 5,000+ insurance-specific terms.
Compliance teams historically spent hours manually searching regulatory content, interpreting it, and applying findings to their work. NILS AI Assist condenses that process by delivering context-aware answers tied directly to source documents.
How it works
The tool uses proprietary large language models and retrieval-augmented generation technology. When a user submits a regulatory question, NILS AI Assist returns relevant insights with full references to original sources - a critical requirement in regulated industries where audit trails matter.
The system incorporates federal, state, and local regulations and integrates directly into existing NILS workflows. Features include prompt libraries, guided workflows, and team threads for collaboration across compliance departments.
Privacy and transparency
Wolters Kluwer built NILS AI Assist with privacy-by-design principles. Customer data is not used to train the underlying models, addressing a key concern for regulated financial institutions.
Chuck Ross, Vice President of Investment Compliance Solutions & Compliance Program Management, said the tool "combines our trusted expertise alongside advanced AI technology to provide end users with a tool that is purpose built for regulated environments."
The company says the solution helps organizations preserve institutional knowledge and improve audit readiness as regulatory requirements grow more complex.
