Yoodli Raises $13.7M to Help Sales Teams Sharpen Their Pitches with AI Roleplay

Seattle-based startup Yoodli has secured $13.7 million in funding to advance its AI-powered communication coaching platform. The startup leverages generative AI to analyze speech and offer actionable tips for improving communication skills, specifically helping sales professionals practice and refine their pitches.

Clients like Databricks, RingCentral, and Snowflake use Yoodli to prepare their teams for real-world sales conversations. The software allows users to create realistic personas, enabling roleplay sessions with one or multiple virtual interlocutors. Yoodli’s AI model is trained on effective communication techniques and can be customized to fit the specific goals of each organization.

AI Roleplay Coaching Gains Momentum

As AI tools become more common in everyday workflows, Yoodli is part of a growing trend of AI roleplay coaching platforms aimed at improving live conversations. Founded in 2021 by Varun Puri and Esha Joshi at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2) incubator, Yoodli originally focused on public speaking for consumers.

Earlier this year, Yoodli demonstrated its capabilities by analyzing President Trump’s inauguration speech, showcasing how its AI can break down complex communication scenarios.

Human Coaches and AI: A Collaborative Approach

Varun Puri, co-founder of Yoodli, explained that while AI can provide valuable feedback on speech patterns, intonation, and pacing, it cannot yet capture the full nuance of human communication. Instead, Yoodli is designed to assist human coaches by increasing their reach and efficiency.

“If you’re the doctor, we are the medical report. If you’re the accountant, we are TurboTax,” Puri said. The idea is that AI can support coaches, enabling them to help hundreds more clients without replacing the human touch.

Strategic Partnerships and Leadership

Yoodli has partnered with organizations like Toastmasters and consulting firm Korn Ferry to expand its reach in communication training. The founders bring strong product management experience from top tech companies: Puri from Google’s X Development and Joshi from Apple.

The latest funding round was led by Neotribe, with participation from investors including Madrona Venture Group, Cercano Capital, AI2, and Ascend.

Why Sales Teams Should Take Notice

For sales professionals, mastering the art of the pitch is critical. Yoodli’s AI roleplay platform offers a practical, hands-on way to practice conversations, gain feedback, and build confidence before real client interactions. This can lead to better engagement, higher close rates, and improved communication skills.

With AI tools like Yoodli becoming part of the sales training toolkit, teams can simulate scenarios, test different approaches, and refine messaging faster than traditional methods allow.
