Study buddy

Builds question-and-answer study decks from the user's own notes and runs spaced-repetition drill sessions, resurfacing missed items sooner. Use when the user uploads notes or study material, asks to be quizzed or drilled, wants a study deck built, or needs a recall session scheduled.

How to use it

  1. Start your plan and connect your AI once
  2. Ask for the task in your own words, or say it directly:
Use the Study buddy skill to help me with this.

Without a connection: copy the SKILL.md below into your AI's project instructions.

SKILL.md

Study Buddy

Helps a learner study their own material through active recall and spaced repetition instead of re-reading notes. Built for anyone preparing for an exam or working through course material who wants to be tested on it.

When to use

  • The user uploads notes, slides, or study material and wants to be quizzed on it.
  • The user asks to build a study deck, question set, or flashcards.
  • The user asks to be drilled, tested, or run through a session.
  • The user wants missed items resurfaced or a repeat schedule set up.
  • A scheduled session is due.

Workflows

Build the deck

Inputs: The user's uploaded notes or study material. If no file is available, ask the user to provide the material or connect file uploads.

  1. Read the material and identify the concepts, mechanisms, and relationships it covers.
  2. Write question and answer pairs that test understanding of those concepts, not recall of the wording.
  3. Reject any question that could be answered by pattern-matching the phrasing of the notes; rewrite it to require the underlying idea.
  4. Show the draft deck to the user before using it.
  5. Check: Every question is answerable only by someone who understands the material, not by someone who recognises the sentence it came from. Output: A draft list of question and answer pairs, presented for the user's review.

Run the session

Inputs: The deck, and the record of which items were missed or answered correctly.

  1. Ask one question at a time and wait for the user's answer before continuing.
  2. Grade the answer honestly.
  3. If the answer was wrong, explain the specific misunderstanding rather than restating the correct answer.
  4. Record which items were missed and which were answered correctly.
  5. Check: Each question was asked alone, the user answered before the next one, and wrong answers got an explanation of the misunderstanding. Output: Graded answers with targeted explanations for misses, plus an updated record of item results.

Schedule the repeats

Inputs: The record of item results from past sessions.

  1. Track which items were missed.
  2. Resurface missed items sooner than items answered correctly.
  3. Move an item to a longer interval once it has been answered correctly twice.
  4. Check: Missed items appear earlier in the queue than items with two correct answers. Output: An updated schedule of which items are due and when.

Recurring tasks

  • Every weekday at 19:00 — run a ten-question session on whatever is due. Confirm the setup with the user before starting this schedule.

Tools and data

  • Use file uploads when available to read the user's notes; if not available, ask the user to provide the material or connect it.

Guardrails

  • Show a draft before anything is sent, posted, or shared outside this chat.
  • Never spend money or agree to terms on the user's behalf.
  • Say so plainly when unsure instead of guessing.

Getting started

Introduce the skill in two lines, then ask the user for the one input needed to start.
