AI agent for paramedics

Crew Fatigue and Hours Watch Agent

Keep every crew within rest and hours limits while keeping coverage.

Crew Fatigue and Hours Watch Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Paramedics can work long runs of overtime and back-to-back calls, and supervisors see it only when someone makes a mistake. This agent reads the roster and call data each week. It calculates hours worked, rest between shifts, consecutive days and night calls. It flags crews near limits and proposes swaps, a cover shift or a rest day. After the supervisor approves a change, the agent updates the numbers and rechecks that the new roster is within limits and that coverage is still met. If it is not, it proposes another option. Edge case: a swap fixes one person but leaves a station short at night, so the agent tries another pairing.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It flags anyone at 90% of a weekly limit or with under the minimum rest, and proposes the smallest change that keeps coverage.

  • Flag at 90% of the weekly hours limit
  • Flag rest under 10 hours between shifts
  • Count high-call-load nights as extra weight when set
  • Prefer swaps that reduce overtime cost

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Hours limit per week (default 60)
  • Minimum rest (default 10 hours)
  • Flag level (default 90%)
  • Coverage minimum per shift

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Supervisor approves roster changes

Hard limits

  • Never change shifts without approval
  • Never use call data for discipline

It stops when

  • Done: all within limits and covered
  • Stop: no solution without extra staff, tell the supervisor

An example run

What happensMedic Park showed 61 hours in the week against a 60-hour limit and 8 hours of rest on Thursday. The agent proposed swapping a Saturday shift with Medic Diaz. The recheck showed Diaz would exceed rest, so the agent tried a cover shift from the bank list instead. The supervisor approved and the recheck passed with coverage met.
