Accenture acquires IndX to expand AI manufacturing solutions

Accenture will acquire Industries eXcellence Group (IndX), a division of Engineering Group, to broaden its AI-driven manufacturing services for industrial clients, the company announced June 18, 2026. The deal adds more than 650 specialists in Siemens software and deepens Accenture's partnership with Siemens Digital Industries.

IndX, based in Rome and Chicago, provides digital thread solutions that connect automation, engineering, and production across operational technology and IT systems. Its work spans product lifecycle management, simulation, digital twins, SCADA, industrial edge computing, and cloud computing. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Strengthening the Siemens partnership

The acquisition marks a milestone for the Accenture Siemens Business Group, a practice launched last year to combine industrial technology with AI-driven engineering and manufacturing services. Tony Hemmelgarn, President and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries Software, said: "Accenture's acquisition of IndX is a milestone for the Accenture Siemens Business Group. It brings proven skills in our industrial solutions for digital manufacturing, engineering, automation, digital twin and simulation, plus long-standing relationships with clients that apply them."

Solving integration challenges with AI

Tracey Countryman, Global Supply Chain and Engineering Lead at Accenture, explained the challenge many manufacturers face. "Manufacturers are increasingly investing in software, data and AI to make engineering and factory operations more flexible, intelligent and connected. But many companies struggle to integrate these technologies across their products, factories, plants and supply chains. We will combine IndX's proven expertise in Siemens technologies with Accenture's AI capabilities and industry knowledge to solve this challenge for clients faster." This focus on bridging product development, factory operations, and supply chain reflects ongoing efforts in AI for Product Development.

Centres of excellence to support global clients

After the deal closes, IndX's staff and technology will join the Accenture Siemens Business Group. Accenture plans to create two Centres of Excellence for Siemens DI solutions in Italy and India, housing specialists in industrial software and digital tools. Teodoro Lio, Market Unit Lead of Accenture Italy, said: "Italy has a unique combination of manufacturing excellence, engineering capabilities and innovation talent. By expanding our Siemens industrial software capabilities and creating a new Centre of Excellence in Italy, we are strengthening an ecosystem that can help Italian industry become even more competitive at the global level, accelerate digital transformation and create highly specialized skills and jobs for the country." The deal is also expected to help industrial firms update supply chain functions, complementing AI for Operations initiatives.

Why this matters for product development

Product development teams will gain access to a broader set of Siemens-based digital twin, simulation, and lifecycle management tools integrated with Accenture's AI capabilities. This can shorten engineering time to market and improve collaboration between design, manufacturing, and supply chain. For professionals working on connected products, the deal signals a stronger focus on bridging the gap between product innovation and factory-floor execution.
