The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, known as Martyn's Law, received Royal Assent in April 2025 and is expected to come into force in spring 2027. Named in memory of Martyn Hett, a victim of the 2017 Manchester Arena attack, the legislation requires operators of large public venues to assess terrorism risk and put proportionate protective measures in place. Some systems support semantic search, which books operators to type a sentence describing what they're looking for and receive all matching clips, similar to using a generative AI tool for prompt-based queries. Operators can also isolate a specific area of interest and see all motion footage in that area to identify who left a suspicious package.

Security beyond the venue

Venue security increasingly extends into surrounding public spaces. New stadium developments are often embedded within entertainment districts, retail destinations, and mixed-use communities, so operators are responsible for tracking activity not just inside a venue but also around it, particularly where large crowds gather before and after events. AI-enabled video helps operators monitor large areas efficiently across multiple locations and mixed-use premises - the arena, retail, transport links, storage, backroom spaces, and more.

That intelligence is also useful beyond security. Marketing, sales, maintenance, staffing, and cleaning can all benefit from understanding crowd-flow patterns, predicting busy periods, detecting long queues, identifying congestion points, and analyzing vehicle movements and parking usage.
