Cars.com Automates VIN-Specific Video Ads to Target In-Market Car Buyers
Cars.com has scaled an AI video generation platform that automatically converts dealer inventory into targeted social media ads. Early results show a 47% lift in influenced vehicle sales and a 35% increase in dealership website traffic.
The platform generates video ads within minutes of a vehicle entering a dealer's inventory system. It pulls photos and vehicle data-pricing, mileage, features, specifications-to create OEM-compliant videos formatted for TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. Videos are removed automatically when vehicles sell.
Cars.com says it is the only platform combining VIN-level video creation with real-time consumer behavior data. The company delivered nearly 10,000 unique video assets to active shoppers in the past 30 days based on search behavior.
How It Works for Dealers
Once a dealer connects their inventory feed to the platform, campaigns require no ongoing manual input. Dealers can launch campaigns in about one week.
The system targets in-market shoppers using first-party behavioral data from Cars.com. Campaigns are not exclusive by market-multiple dealers in the same area can participate-but each campaign is limited to that dealer's own inventory.

Early campaign results include:

Dawn Reidel, Director of Marketing at Heiser Automotive, said dealers gain visibility into shopper behavior and sales attribution. "We know that our videos are getting to shoppers who are lower-funnel and ready to buy," she said. "We can see every month how many people watched our videos and then came to our store locations."
The rollout follows a pilot announced at the 2026 NADA Show and a live campaign launch in March.
