Rs 15 Crore Endowment Launches Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation at Jindal Global Law School
O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) has established the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation within its Jindal Global Law School (JGLS). This initiative is backed by a ₹15 crore endowment from Cyril Shroff, founder and managing partner of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM), one of India’s premier law firms.
The Centre marks a significant development in Indian legal education and technology policy, focusing on the intersection of artificial intelligence, law, and regulatory frameworks.
A Vision for AI Governance in India
Cyril Shroff highlighted the urgency of addressing AI’s role today, stating that AI is deeply integrated into daily life, work, and governance. He emphasized India’s potential to lead in shaping ethical policies and regulations for AI and digital technologies.
The Centre aims to become a hub for rigorous research, policy engagement, and thought leadership. Its goal is to support India in crafting balanced and forward-looking AI regulatory frameworks.
Institutional Collaboration and Global Reach
The Centre was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding during CAM’s 10th anniversary in Mumbai, building on the Amarchand Mangaldas family's 108-year legacy.
This will be India’s first dedicated Centre of Excellence focusing on AI’s impact on law, policy, and regulation. It will lead efforts both nationally and internationally to assess and regulate AI’s societal effects.
JGU expressed gratitude for Cyril Shroff’s visionary support, noting that the Centre will strengthen India’s leadership in AI governance and set global benchmarks for research and policy work.
