Databricks has launched CustomerLake, an agentic Customer Data Platform (CDP) that unifies customer data, AI models, agents, identity resolution, audience building, and activation on the company's open lakehouse. The platform is now available in private preview, with early customers including HP, Circle K, AB InBev, and Getnet by Santander. It signals a shift from disconnected campaign management to a continuous, AI-driven loop where agents analyze, decide, and act on customer behavior in real time.
Marketing moves from campaigns to continuous loops
Ali Ghodsi, co-founder and CEO of Databricks, said marketers need to rethink their entire foundation. "With CustomerLake, customer data, AI models, and agents live in one governed platform," Ghodsi said. "Marketing stops being a series of campaigns and becomes a continuous loop - agents that constantly analyze, decide, and act on every customer in real time. For the first time, enterprises can deliver infinity campaigns and 1:1 personalization at scale."
Unlike legacy CDPs that follow a waterfall model, CustomerLake places governed customer context and AI models in a single environment. The system does not wait for a marketer to trigger a campaign; it continuously analyzes and acts. The same models that generate customer insights drive activation directly, without data copies, pipeline lag, or governance tradeoffs.
Built for a world where agents do the buying
The launch comes as consumers deploy AI agents to research, evaluate, and transact on their behalf. Marketing teams are also rebuilding their stacks to be run by agents. Traditional martech wasn't built for either scenario. CustomerLake addresses this by bringing the CDP natively into the Databricks platform, giving agents real-time access to context, data, and execution in one place. This agentic CDP category reflects a broader movement toward AI for Marketing, where continuous, automated systems replace manual campaign planning.
Infinity campaigns and agentic capabilities
CustomerLake introduces several capabilities that replace one-off campaigns with always-on engagement:
- Always-on "infinity campaigns" deliver continuous, agent-driven engagement so every customer can receive a truly 1:1 experience.
- Campaign agents enable marketers to build audiences, automate campaigns, and personalize experiences directly from their data foundation, regardless of where it's stored.
- Profile agents turn raw customer data into business-ready records for marketing and customer teams through an end-to-end agentic loop.
- Open partner ecosystem allows data ingestion and activation across platforms including Adobe, Meta, LiveRamp, and The Trade Desk.
HP's early adoption and the pricing model
Kumar Ram, Global Head of Marketing Technology and AI Enablement at HP, said the future of AI-driven customer engagement depends on moving beyond fragmented data. "Databricks CustomerLake brings that vision to life, enabling HP to build customer intelligence, personalization, and activation on the data foundation we already trust, rather than creating another place where data must be copied, reconciled, and secured," Ram said. "With CustomerLake, marketing can move faster, operate smarter, and transform with AI using the same trusted customer context as finance, product, sales, and operations."
CustomerLake is priced on a specialized, value-aligned consumption model rather than a traditional software license. The private preview is now open to new customers.
Why this matters for marketing professionals
CustomerLake represents a concrete move toward infrastructure where customer data and AI execution live in one governed environment. For marketing teams, this means the end of campaign lag and data silos that fragment identity. Instead of managing dozens of disconnected tools, teams can operate from a single platform where agents continuously analyze and act. The shift also requires new skills in managing agentic workflows, an area where AI Agents & Automation are becoming critical. As the line between data, models, and activation blurs, marketers who understand how to orchestrate these continuous loops will have an advantage.
