Elation Health Acquires Voice AI Startup Aster to Add Front-Office Automation
Elation Health has acquired Aster, a voice AI platform that automates front-office tasks in medical practices. The California-based EHR and practice management company will integrate Aster's Atlas voice agent into its existing offerings for primary care providers.
Aster, founded in 2023, built software to handle scheduling, patient intake, and other administrative work through voice commands. The startup raised $2.8 million from investors including Zeal Capital Partners and Cornerstone Ventures.
Aster's cofounders Fifi Kara and Dr. Lailah Kara-Newton, along with Chief Technology Officer Nacho Vazquez, will join Elation Health's team. Both companies were founded by sibling pairs with a focus on fixing healthcare operations.
"The Aster team impressed us with their vision and creative inventions to support independent practices," said Kyna Fong, cofounder and CEO of Elation Health. "It was clear right away they would significantly add to our capabilities."
Expanding the AI Toolkit
The acquisition fits Elation Health's broader strategy of embedding AI into clinical workflows. Earlier this year, the company integrated Anthropic's Claude model to power a tool that summarizes patient records for providers.
Elation has made other acquisitions to build out its platform. In 2023, it bought Lightning MD, a billing and revenue cycle management company, to offer an all-in-one practice management solution.
The company has raised $108.5 million total, including a $50 million Series D in 2022 and a $40 million Series C in 2020.
