Flodesk, the design-forward email marketing platform serving over 100,000 small businesses and creators, launched Flodesk Studio today - a standalone AI design app that combines AI generation with full manual control in a way the company calls a first for the industry. Studio is free during its beta period, lets users generate branded emails from descriptive prompts, and exports clean HTML to providers like Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Beehiiv, and Kit.
A designer-built starting point
Studio's email designs originate from a library created by professional designers, not blank-slate generation. Users describe their brand and desired layout, and Studio assembles a draft that follows compositional logic, typographic discipline, and visual restraint. "AI is making a lot of things look the same right now, and that's a real problem for small businesses, whose brand is often the thing that sets them apart," said Rebecca Shostak, co-founder and CEO of Flodesk. "We built Studio to do the opposite: to help small businesses look more like themselves, not less."
The tool interprets a brand's color, type, and visual language from the user's site or input, generating emails that read as authored rather than templated. This designer-led foundation is a deliberate inversion of typical generative AI workflows, where tools start from a blank prompt and often produce interchangeable results.
Control from prompt to pixel
Once a design is generated, users can refine it through conversational, prompt-based edits, drag-and-drop composition, or pixel-level manual adjustments. "I describe what I want, it brings something to life, and then we go back and forth until it's exactly right. It's the most creative I've felt using a tool in years," said Valerie Chapman, founder of Ruth AI. The average Flodesk email takes two hours to create; Studio cuts that to under five minutes, according to the company.
Finished designs can be sent directly through Flodesk or exported as portable HTML to nearly any email service provider. Flodesk says email generation is the starting point, with forms and web pages to follow.
Why this matters for Creatives
Studio demonstrates that AI in creative tools can preserve brand identity rather than dilute it. By grounding generation in professional design principles and giving users granular control, it sidesteps the uniformity that often plagues AI-generated content. For creatives, the takeaway is that the next wave of AI will likely prioritize authorship and personal style over mere speed. Professionals tracking this shift can follow resources on AI for Creatives to see how such tools are reshaping design and marketing workflows.
Studio is available for free during beta at studio.flodesk.com, and no Flodesk account is required.
