Google Cloud and Singapore Launch $500,000 AI Incentive for 300 Enterprises

Singapore is stepping up its AI adoption with a new initiative called AI Cloud Takeoff, a partnership between Google Cloud and the Singapore government. The programme offers up to $500,000 in benefits per company to help local enterprises build AI capabilities and integrate AI solutions into their core operations.

The incentive package includes technical guidance, Google training resources, and cloud service credits. This support aims to help companies develop in-house AI expertise and expand their AI pilot projects.

Eligibility and Commitment Requirements

  • Companies must be registered or incorporated in Singapore.
  • At least three employees with technical backgrounds must be committed for a minimum of six months.
  • Formal backing from a business leader is required.
  • Applicants must have at least one AI use case ready for development.

Use cases will be evaluated by Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), which leads the programme. AI Cloud Takeoff is the first initiative launched under the $150 million Enterprise Compute Initiative announced in Singapore’s 2025 Budget, focused on accelerating AI and cloud adoption among enterprises.

Programme Features

A key component is a two-week AI capacity-building boot camp hosted by Google Cloud experts. This boot camp helps companies set up AI centres of excellence within six months. Currently, Singapore has 26 such centres, which focus on innovation, experimentation, training, coordination, and evaluation. The government aims to grow this number to about 100 centres to drive wider industry transformation.

Selected companies can also access consultation from seven advisory firms: Accenture, AsiaPac, CloudMile, Deloitte, Kyndryl, NTT Data, and Searce. These firms will guide participants from data exploration through to model training, deployment, and optimisation.

Grant Breakdown and Milestones

  • $105,000 to cover 70% of consultancy service fees
  • $200,000 in training credits and certifications
  • $195,000 in cloud credits

The grant is disbursed in tranches based on milestone achievements. Companies have six months to allocate budgets and deliver at least one viable AI solution.

Insights from Industry Leaders

Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Low Yen Ling highlighted the government’s goal to foster more AI centres of excellence, which act as catalysts for industry-wide change.

Google Cloud’s regional managing director for solutions and technology, Mitesh Agarwal, emphasized the challenge of hiring and retaining AI talent. He noted that real progress happens when companies operationalize AI through these centres.

Andy Welsh, CTO of fintech firm Embed, which participated in the pilot programme, advised companies to focus on existing problems when selecting AI use cases. “You get results quicker when you tackle issues already affecting your business,” he said.

Success Stories from Pilot Participants

Several firms have piloted AI Cloud Takeoff since late 2024:

  • YCH Group is deploying AI-powered document processing and cargo scanning at the Vietnam SuperPort, with plans to expand to supply chain hubs in Singapore and Malaysia.
  • Seaco, a container leasing company, implemented AI to identify damaged containers at Tuas Depot. This automation cut inspection times from weeks to minutes and is expected to save at least $10 million annually.
  • Embed introduced an AI kiosk solution in the US to personalize arcade gaming recommendations, improving customer engagement and directing traffic to underperforming games.

The programme welcomes companies regardless of whether they are current Google customers and is open to supporting more than the initial 300 enterprises if demand exceeds expectations.

This initiative follows Google’s 2023 AI Trailblazers programme, which helped 213 early-stage AI adopters become Google customers. The market has matured since then, with many firms overcoming previous concerns about security and quality to now actively deploying enterprise AI solutions.

For government and operations professionals interested in developing AI skills and practical applications, programmes like AI Cloud Takeoff offer structured support and funding to accelerate AI integration.
