Google DeepMind has selected 16 organizations across the Asia-Pacific region for its inaugural AI for the Planet Accelerator. The three-month program, which launched this week with a bootcamp in Singapore, provides startups, nonprofits, and research teams with access to frontier AI models and expert mentorship to scale environmental solutions.

The cohort will work with specialized models including AnthroKrishi, ForestCast, AlphaEarth Foundations, SpeciesNet, and Perch. The organizations span nine countries and target challenges in biodiversity protection, sustainable agriculture, and carbon markets.

Protecting nature and building climate resilience

Several teams are applying AI to biodiversity monitoring and conservation. New Zealand's 800 Trust uses bioacoustics to detect environmental threats, while Listening Lab, also based in New Zealand, is developing data-efficient sound-based tools for biodiversity tracking. Wildlife.ai builds open-source AI-powered cameras for wildlife conservation.

Singapore's Kumi Analytics integrates remote sensing with deep learning to establish environmental baselines for conservation projects. South Korea's TelePIX transforms satellite data into actionable intelligence for global mangrove monitoring. In Indonesia, Yayasan Ekosistem Lestari is creating a predictive AI platform that connects environmental degradation with disaster risk.

Advancing sustainable agriculture

Five organizations are focused on helping farmers through AI. Indonesia's Edufarmers delivers near real-time pest, disease, and weather guidance to smallholder farmers through everyday messaging apps. Thailand's Living Roots uses data and AI to design biological fertilizers tailored to specific crop needs.

India's Terrastack combines satellite and agronomic data to provide plot-level land intelligence for smallholder farmers. Australia's X-Centric is replacing traditional soil labs with portable, AI-enabled X-ray hardware for instant geochemical insight. SIGMA, based in Singapore, develops satellite-based AI models to estimate crop yields and build climate resilience.

Scaling climate and carbon solutions

The remaining cohort members target carbon markets and urban energy. Japan's Archeda uses satellite data to transform nature-based carbon credits into measurable, high-integrity assets at scale. India's Farmers for Forests turns smallholder agroforestry into measurable carbon and biodiversity action using AI-powered drones.

Varaha Climate, also in India, helps smallholder farmers earn carbon credits by verifying regenerative agriculture and carbon removal through remote sensing and AI. Climitra Carbon deploys Geo-AI to verify the removal of invasive species and convert them into biochar. Singapore's City Syntax Lab is building an agentic AI platform to optimize energy and carbon across urban districts.
