Indonesia Advances National AI Development Initiatives

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is pushing forward with the implementation of a strategic national artificial intelligence (AI) framework. Minister Meutya Hafid emphasized the urgency of swift and coordinated action to realize this goal, echoing President Prabowo Subianto’s call for faster execution of government programs.

During a leadership meeting in Jakarta, Minister Hafid highlighted the President’s directive to accelerate progress across all ministries and agencies. The focus is on transforming plans into tangible results without delay.

Building a Unified AI Roadmap

The government is finalizing a comprehensive AI roadmap that will guide Indonesia’s development of an inclusive and responsible AI ecosystem. This roadmap results from collaboration with 39 ministries and agencies, ensuring aligned perspectives and coordinated efforts.

This initiative aims to improve inter-agency cooperation in cultivating skilled human resources and expanding the AI environment across the country.

Priority Sectors for AI Application

Five key sectors have been identified for targeted AI development:

• Healthcare
• Digital talent education
• Bureaucratic reform
• Smart city development
• Food security

These sectors were selected to promote equity and enhance public welfare through digital transformation.

Beyond AI, Minister Hafid underscored the need for improved coordination and systematic reporting within the ministry. She stressed that collaborative leadership is essential for creating a more efficient and future-ready government.
