Kashmiri Scholars Co-Edit Global Springer Volume on AI in Healthcare
Three faculty members from the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, have co-edited a significant academic book titled Artificial Intelligence in Human Health and Diseases, published by Springer Nature. The editors—Dr. Muzafar A. Macha, Dr. Assif Assad, and Dr. Muzafar Rasool Bhat—bring expertise from Jammu and Kashmir to this international publication.
The book offers a thorough examination of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is shaping healthcare. It covers practical applications such as improved diagnostics, precision medicine, and AI-driven drug development. Key topics include radiogenomics, oncology, medical imaging, biomarker discovery, and bioinformatics.
Besides showcasing AI’s capabilities, the volume also discusses challenges like data scarcity, explainability, model generalization, and clinical integration. This makes it a valuable resource for healthcare professionals, researchers, and policy-makers interested in the intersection of AI and medicine.
About the Editors
- Dr. Muzafar A. Macha is a Ramalingaswami Fellow and Head of the Watson-Crick Centre for Molecular Medicine at IUST. He specializes in cancer biology and has over 90 peer-reviewed publications. His research experience includes time at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA.
- Dr. Assif Assad is Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Centre for AI at IUST. Holding a PhD from IIT Roorkee, he has secured ten patents and led multiple funded projects in healthcare and agriculture supported by agencies such as DST and ICMR.
- Dr. Muzafar Rasool Bhat is a Senior Assistant Professor at IUST’s Centre for AI. With a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Kashmir, his work focuses on bioinformatics, probabilistic modeling, and AI applications in agriculture and public health, supported by over 40 peer-reviewed publications.
AI’s Practical Role in Healthcare
Dr. Muzafar Rasool Bhat highlighted the book’s goal to make AI accessible and applicable within medical settings. He noted, “This publication aims to bridge science and society by encouraging interdisciplinary collaborations, especially from developing regions like ours. AI can make healthcare more efficient, accessible, and affordable.”
The editors emphasize AI’s capacity to identify complex patterns often invisible to human observers, which can improve diagnostic accuracy and tailor treatments. This approach supports personalized and predictive medicine, promising better patient outcomes.
The book’s international availability through Springer’s online platforms ensures it can serve as a practical guide for years. Healthcare professionals interested in expanding their AI knowledge may also find relevant courses and certifications at Complete AI Training.
