KAYAK Adds Conversational AI to Travel Planning as World Cup Drives Booking Surge
KAYAK launched Ask AI, a conversational travel planning tool that lets users search, compare, and book trips through chat while live results update alongside the conversation. The feature arrives as flight searches to U.S. World Cup host cities have jumped 23% compared to last summer.
The tool combines natural language questions with traditional search filters in a single interface. Travelers can ask about hotels near stadiums, compare flights between host cities, or build multi-city itineraries without switching tabs or restarting searches.
Matthias Keller, Chief Product Officer at KAYAK, said the company observed that travelers use AI to start planning but rely on traditional search tools to evaluate options and complete bookings. "Ask AI is the next evolution, combining both in a single, seamless user experience," he said.
Real-Time Pricing and Booking Data
The tool pulls live prices and availability from hundreds of travel partners. As users refine their trip through conversation, results update in real time, showing current options and rates.
World Cup Travel Trends Dashboard
KAYAK also launched a dashboard tracking how fans plan trips around the tournament using search and pricing data. Early findings show distinct patterns:
- Kansas City is seeing a 168% year-over-year increase in flight searches, emerging as a breakout destination.
- Hotel prices are climbing across host markets: up 36% in the U.S., 55% in Canada, and 119% in Mexico.
- Germany, the United Kingdom, and Colombia are the top three countries searching for flights to U.S. host cities.
For professionals in hospitality and events, understanding how AI-powered tools reshape customer travel planning is increasingly relevant. These platforms show how conversational AI capabilities integrate into booking workflows and influence pricing strategies during high-demand periods.
