Kazakhstan Deploys AI Assistant to Boost Criminal Investigations and Streamline Police Work
Kazakhstan launched "Digital Assistant to the Investigator," an AI system aiding criminal investigations by analyzing data, guiding procedures, and generating documents. This pilot project enhances efficiency and supports crime prevention.

Artificial Intelligence Enhances Criminal Investigations in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan has taken a significant step by launching a pilot project that integrates artificial intelligence into its law enforcement processes. The initiative, known as “Digital Assistant to the Investigator,” is a collaboration between the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, currently operating in a district police department in Astana.
The system was introduced last week with key figures such as Sabit Nurlybay, Chairman of the Committee on Legal Statistics and Special Records of the General Prosecutor’s Office, and Sanjar Adilov, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, present at the launch.
How the Digital Assistant Supports Investigators
Built on advanced AI algorithms and large-scale data processing, this digital assistant aids investigators by identifying links between cases, making predictions, and offering procedural guidance. It helps both in conducting investigations and in crime prevention efforts.
The Prosecutor General’s Office explains that the system is structured into three main modules:
- Investigation Planning – Once a criminal case is registered, the system classifies the offense, suggests an investigative strategy based on the facts, and recommends relevant witnesses and expert examinations.
- Testimony Processing – The AI transcribes spoken testimony into text during interviews. At the same time, it analyzes speech patterns and behavior to detect contradictions or inconsistencies.
- Document Generation – Using the interview data, the system drafts investigation documents that the investigator only needs to review and sign off on.
The platform also compiles final case files, combining investigation information with pertinent judicial precedents. This approach aims to shorten investigation durations and reduce routine administrative work for investigators.
Context of AI Development in Kazakhstan
This project aligns with Kazakhstan’s recent unveiling of the most powerful supercomputer in Central Asia, a move to strengthen its digital infrastructure and AI capabilities. The country’s commitment to AI adoption is reflected in the International Monetary Fund’s ranking, which named Kazakhstan the regional leader in AI readiness last year.
