Kenya Partners with Slovenia to Boost Digital Government through AI

President William Ruto has announced a strategic partnership with Slovenia to enhance Kenya’s digital transformation, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI), e-governance, and data protection. This move aligns with Kenya’s goal to become a leading digital innovation hub in Africa.

Speaking alongside Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar during her first-ever State Visit to Kenya, President Ruto highlighted Slovenia’s progress in e-government, smart infrastructure, and cybersecurity as a valuable model for Kenya’s digital ambitions.

First State Visit by Slovenian Head of State

President Musar arrived in Nairobi for a three-day State Visit, marking the first time a Slovenian president has visited Kenya. She was welcomed by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The two leaders discussed expanding cooperation in key sectors including agriculture, health, education, energy, environment, and trade. Both emphasized the role of digital transformation in promoting inclusive development.

Focus on AI and Digital Innovation

President Ruto pointed out that Slovenia’s success in digital governance offers practical lessons for Kenya’s efforts to digitize public services and strengthen online security. The collaboration will target AI applications, digital identity systems, and data protection frameworks.

Areas for joint development include smart farming technologies, enhancing digital infrastructure, and value addition in agriculture. These initiatives support Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) plan and other digital public services.

Business Forum and Investment Opportunities

The visit also featured the launch of the Kenya-Slovenia Business Forum to encourage investment in pharmaceuticals, ICT, agro-processing, and clean energy. President Ruto welcomed the Slovenian business delegation, emphasizing trade and investment as pillars of the growing partnership.

In agriculture, the leaders agreed to expand a beekeeping project in Mandera County, aimed at boosting biodiversity, food security, and local employment.

Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

President Ruto praised Slovenia’s achievements in forest conservation and proposed joint projects in sustainable forestry, eco-tourism, and non-timber forest products. Education and youth empowerment, particularly in STEM and vocational training, were identified as shared priorities.

President Pirc Musar will be the chief foreign guest at Kenya’s Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay County, marking 61 years of self-rule. Her presence highlights Slovenia’s increasing engagement with Kenya and the African continent.
