L’Oréal and Nvidia Forge AI Alliance for Personalized, Sustainable Beauty Innovation
L’Oréal partners with Nvidia to integrate AI into beauty product development and personalization. Innovations include AI-driven 3D design, skin diagnostics, and sustainable formulations.

L’Oréal and Nvidia Partner to Advance AI in Beauty Product Development
French cosmetics giant L’Oréal has joined forces with Nvidia to embed artificial intelligence deeper into its product development, customer engagement, and sustainability efforts. This strategic partnership focuses on integrating generative AI, dermatological data, and advanced computing to enhance innovation within the beauty industry.
Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L’Oréal, emphasized at the VivaTech event in Paris that generative AI is reshaping how beauty products are created and personalized. The company already manages over 16,000 terabytes of data and collaborates with tech leaders like Nvidia and NanoEntek to drive these advancements.
Key AI Initiatives in Product Development and Customer Experience
The collaboration has produced several AI-powered tools to support L’Oréal’s brands. One such platform, Creaitech, leverages generative AI to create 3D renderings and digital marketing campaigns. This boosts creative output while ensuring visual quality remains high.
Another significant project, Noli (No One Like I), is a multi-brand startup that uses a diagnostic engine fueled by over a million dermatological data points and thousands of product formulas. Noli connects consumers with products that fit their unique skin profiles, addressing the growing demand for personalized beauty solutions. Studies show 85% of users prioritize trust over price when selecting beauty products, making accurate personalization essential.
The partnership also introduced AI Refinery, an infrastructure developed with Nvidia and Accenture, hosted on Microsoft Azure. This platform enables swift AI experimentation and real-time adaptation to changing consumer behaviors. AI Refinery will integrate with Noli to refine product recommendations dynamically.
Among the most innovative applications is the “longevity wheel”, a technology that predicts skin aging effects quickly. Already part of Lancôme's offerings, it allows for fast diagnostics and tailored cosmetic solutions. Additionally, L’Oréal is expanding agentic AI experiences such as augmented reality makeup trials and virtual assistants like Beauty Genius, which has conducted over 400,000 conversations in the U.S. and is soon launching on WhatsApp.
Applying AI for Sustainability and New Formulations
Beyond product innovation, AI assists L’Oréal in enhancing sustainability. The company uses algorithms to improve traceability in sourcing natural ingredients and optimize eco-efficient product designs, exemplified by the AirLight Pro hairdryer. In perfumery, AI helps develop responsible fragrances like Osmobloom, optimized from molecule selection to final formula.
Hieronimus highlighted how AI accelerates R&D by enabling rapid molecule projection and product formulation. Despite the rise of data-driven models, the company maintains that human intuition and creativity remain vital to decision-making.
Strong Financial Growth Supports Innovation
L’Oréal ended 2024 with a 5.6% increase in sales, reaching €43,486 million. Growth was driven mainly by Europe, which expanded by 9.3%. Operating profit rose to €8,687 million. Aside from a 3.4% decline in North Asia, all other regions saw gains, notably Latin America (13.3%) and Asia-Pacific (12%). The dermatology division led growth with sales totaling €7,027 million.
For professionals involved in product development, L’Oréal’s AI integration showcases practical applications of generative AI in creating personalized, sustainable, and data-backed beauty products. The partnership with Nvidia illustrates how combining domain expertise with powerful AI infrastructure can accelerate innovation cycles and improve consumer engagement.
