Meta Highlights the Synergy of Video and AI to Boost Brand Engagement

At the recent NewFronts event, Meta Platforms emphasized how artificial intelligence (AI) and video work together to enhance advertising effectiveness. The company presented AI tools not as replacements for human creativity but as enhancements that drive higher video consumption and better campaign results.

Simon Whitcombe, vice president of Meta’s global business group, shared insights on how the company’s AI capabilities fuel engagement on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and especially Reels—Meta’s answer to TikTok. Reels videos are now shared 4.5 billion times daily, reflecting strong user connection with both creators and brands.

To help advertisers capitalize on this momentum, Meta introduced a new Reels trending ads feature. This allows brands to place their ads alongside top-performing creator videos, either overall or within categories like beauty, sports, and fashion. This approach is similar to TikTok’s Pulse product, which situates ads next to premium content to boost visibility.

Though details on timing and scale remain limited, Meta plans to begin a small test of Reels trending ads soon, responding directly to industry demand. Additionally, video ads will soon launch on Threads, Meta’s micro-blogging app that now boasts 350 million monthly active users worldwide.

Supporting Creators and Streamlining Influencer Partnerships

Meta also showcased new tools aimed at helping brands discover and collaborate with creators more efficiently. These include a system to identify emerging Instagram trends and the early development of a Creator Marketplace API to match brands with influencers at scale.

Addressing AI’s Role in Creativity and Marketing

Generative AI featured prominently in Meta’s presentation. The company is extending its AI-powered video expansion tool—which adapts creative assets for various formats—to Facebook Reels. This tool enhances content without replacing the creative process.

Whitcombe stressed that AI should be viewed as a creative assistant rather than a threat. Meta’s suite of AI tools aims to usher in a new era of creativity where marketers and agencies remain central to crafting effective campaigns.

This perspective complements comments from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who envisions AI handling more of the operational tasks traditionally managed by marketing service providers and ad-tech vendors. This includes creative generation, demographic targeting, and campaign measurement tailored to advertiser goals.

What Marketers Should Take Away

  • AI can help increase video engagement by optimizing content delivery and placement.
  • New advertising formats like Reels trending ads offer fresh opportunities to connect with engaged audiences.
  • Tools that facilitate influencer discovery and trend identification can streamline campaign planning.
  • Embracing AI as a creative partner can free marketers to focus on strategy and storytelling.
