Salesforce is set to report its fiscal second-quarter 2027 earnings on Aug. 26, and investors will be watching whether the company's heavy investment in AI is starting to move its financial results. The report comes amid cautious enterprise tech spending, though demand for cloud software and productivity tools remains steady. Salesforce's position in customer relationship management software and its expanding AI product portfolio give it a clear runway if the quarter delivers.
AI is now central to Salesforce's long-term growth strategy. The company's Agentforce platform lets businesses automate tasks across customer service, marketing, and sales using AI-powered agents that operate with limited human involvement. By embedding these tools into its broader cloud ecosystem, Salesforce is giving customers more reasons to expand their spending within its platform rather than switch to competitors.
Agentforce momentum builds
Agentforce is gaining traction at scale. The platform's annual recurring revenues reached $1.2 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, a 205% year-over-year increase. During that quarter, Salesforce processed 28.6 trillion AI tokens, up 152% sequentially, while Agentic Work Units rose 111% to 3.8 billion - figures that point to rising customer engagement.
The broader AI portfolio is expanding alongside it. Combined AI and data ARR, which includes Agentforce, Data 360, and Informatica Cloud, reached $3.4 billion, reflecting 200% year-over-year growth. In the last reported quarter, half of Agentforce and Data 360 bookings came from existing customers who increased their spending, a sign of strong cross-selling within the install base.
This AI-led strategy is also helping Salesforce rebuild momentum in its core subscription and support business. Revenue growth in that segment has stayed in double digits for each of the past four quarters, a clear improvement from the single-digit growth rates the company posted earlier. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for subscription and support revenue in the second quarter sits at $10.78 billion, which would be an increase of roughly 11.2% year over year.
For sales professionals, the takeaway is practical: AI agents are no longer an experimental add-on. They are becoming a measurable revenue line, and tools like Agentforce are increasingly handling the routine parts of sales and service work - qualification, follow-up, and customer support triage. Teams that understand how to work alongside these agents, and how to interpret the data they produce, will have an edge over those treating AI as a buzzword. The platforms are here, the spending is real, and the skills to use them well are becoming a differentiator.
Salesforce currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). The report mentions Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Lumentum Holdings, and Teradyne as better-ranked options in the Zacks Computer and Technology sector, each holding a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
