Sanford Health Executives to Discuss AI Implementation at Reuters Digital Health Summit

Sanford Health will send three senior leaders to the Reuters Digital Health Summit in Chicago on May 20-21 to discuss how health systems are scaling artificial intelligence and digital tools across operations.

Tommy Ibrahim, executive vice president and chief transformation officer, will participate in a fireside chat about redesigning care delivery through AI for Healthcare and digital innovation, particularly in rural America.

"Transformation is ultimately about rethinking how care is delivered - not simply implementing new technology," Ibrahim said. "We're taking a disciplined, problem-first approach to scaling AI in ways that expand access, support our workforce, improve affordability and drive better outcomes."

David Newman, chief medical officer for virtual care, will discuss how Sanford uses AI and virtual care to strengthen patient experience. He emphasized that healthcare is moving beyond early-stage hype into practical deployment.

"We're moving beyond the hype phase of digital health and into the real work of operationalizing these tools in ways that reduce friction for clinicians and improve the patient experience," Newman said.

Erica DeBoer, chief nursing officer, will speak about Sanford's virtual nursing model and how the organization works with frontline staff to design technology workflows. She will also participate in a women in healthcare networking lunch.

DeBoer highlighted the role of staff input in technology design. "Trust is foundational to every part of digital transformation in healthcare," she said. "Our virtual nursing model has been built in close partnership with our frontline teams."

Sanford's approach centers on reducing administrative burden for clinicians while improving patient safety through AI Agents & Automation that support rather than replace clinical work.
