Scottish Widows Teams Up with Sprout.ai to Speed Up Insurance Claims

Scottish Widows, part of Lloyds Banking Group, has started a pilot project with Sprout.ai, an insurance automation company, to apply artificial intelligence (AI) in life and critical illness insurance claims and underwriting.

This pilot uses AI combined with natural language processing (NLP) to reduce claims processing times and simplify the handling of complex medical documents. It also helps underwriters by quickly summarising large medical files, enabling faster decision-making.

The partnership aims to improve the claims experience for thousands of customers across the UK by automating routine tasks and exploring further ways to streamline the claims process.

Benefits for Claims Handlers and Customers

Roi Amir, CEO of Sprout.ai, highlighted that AI is central to upcoming changes in the insurance sector. He emphasized that automation should focus not just on efficiency but also on delivering better customer outcomes.

David Russell, Senior Manager of Claims and Underwriting Strategy at Scottish Widows, explained that making a claim can be stressful. Using AI and NLP allows claims handlers to concentrate on providing empathetic support, as the technology takes care of routine processing.
