Siri AI will write message and email drafts from scratch and give feedback on text you've already written when iOS 27 arrives Monday, September 14. The features ship as a beta inside Messages and Mail, and Apple says the assistant matches the tone and punctuation you use with a specific recipient.
Apple describes the additions as part of Write with Siri, not a separate app. A systemwide automatic Proofread runs alongside the drafting and feedback tools. All three arrive with the beta label Apple has attached to Siri AI across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.
What the writing tools do
Apple's iOS 27 page says Siri AI "can now generate a draft from scratch or provide feedback on what you've written." Draft from scratch generates new text you did not start. Feedback comments on text already in the message or email field. Both work in Messages and Mail.
Tone matching uses the punctuation and word choices you typically employ with a given recipient. A note to a manager and a reply in a group chat should come back different, without you setting a formality level. The feature reads existing correspondence for context, consistent with Siri AI's broader use of on-device personal context and Private Cloud Compute.
Apple has not published details on what the feedback covers, whether suggestions appear inline or as a summary, or whether the draft lands in the message field or a separate sheet.
Device and language limits
You need an Apple Intelligence iPhone: iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 or later. Every iPhone 11 and later gets iOS 27, but the writing features are not included on older hardware. At launch, Siri AI works in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish arriving in October.
Two regional gaps apply. Siri AI will not be available initially in the EU on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS, though Mac and Apple Vision Pro users in the EU can use it in a supported language. Apple also said the features are unavailable in China while regulatory requirements are pending.
Apple notes that server-backed Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, are subject to daily usage limits. Expanded access will require a fee in the future. No limit figure or price has been published.
What Apple hasn't said
Apple Support still lists iOS 26 instructions, with no guide covering the new writing tools. Unanswered questions include whether feedback appears as inline suggestions or accepted edits, how you invoke a draft from scratch, whether third-party mail apps can use the same drafting, and whether the systemwide Proofread can be turned off.
