Tanzania Accelerates Artificial Intelligence Initiatives for Inclusive Social and Economic Growth
Tanzania launches the Artificial Intelligence Forum to promote AI for inclusive social and economic growth. The event gathers experts to discuss ethical AI use and data governance.

Tanzania Advances AI Initiatives to Boost Social and Economic Development
As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to influence global technological progress, Tanzania is taking clear steps to integrate this technology into its national growth strategy. The government, via the Ministry for Communications and Information Technology, has launched the Tanzania Artificial Intelligence Forum to explore opportunities for the country's development through AI.
The forum, themed “Building a Tanzania that Leverages AI in Line with Our Values and Data Governance for Inclusive Economic and Social Development,” will be held from July 28-29 in Dar es Salaam. It will gather over 500 professionals and experts from Tanzania, the East African Community, Germany, Estonia, and Finland.
National Focus on AI Adoption and Governance
Dr. Nkundwe Mwasaga, Director General of the Information and Communication Technologies Commission (ICTC), highlighted that many countries are actively exploring how AI can contribute to social and economic growth. Tanzania has already started incorporating AI, with applications in judicial institutions, education, and healthcare sectors.
Unlike other technologies, AI uniquely influences every citizen — from innovators and students to civil servants and private sector employees — by enabling machines to think and make decisions similarly to humans.
Key Forum Topics and Government Initiatives
The forum will focus on aligning AI use with Tanzania’s ethical standards and data governance policies. Dr. Mwasaga pointed out that leading nations maintain strict data control, which strengthens their position in AI development. Tanzania is responding by establishing a national data centre and implementing a personal data protection law to safeguard citizens’ information.
The discussions will emphasize two main goals:
- Driving inclusive social and economic development through AI
- Ensuring that no group is left behind in adopting this technology
Additionally, the forum will cover the final stages of Tanzania’s AI strategy development. It aims to build capacity in AI system creation and usage, and to refine policies supporting AI-driven progress.
Knowledge Exchange and Capacity Building
The event will serve as a platform for Tanzanian experts to exchange insights with international AI professionals. It will also provide emerging innovators opportunities to connect with both local and global institutions, fostering collaboration and skill development.
For government officials interested in expanding their AI expertise and understanding practical applications, exploring specialized AI training resources can be valuable. Platforms like Complete AI Training offer courses tailored to various skill levels and job roles.
