UAE Government Launches Media Guidelines as Agentic AI Emerges as Priority

The UAE Government Media Office has introduced a new content framework for federal entities, signalling a shift toward AI-assisted government communications. The guidelines were announced during a Government Communication Network meeting in Dubai, attended by communication directors from across the federal government.

The framework provides practical guidance on content planning, message development, production, and distribution. Officials positioned the guidelines as part of efforts to standardise messaging across the public sector and improve how government teams engage with citizens and residents.

Agentic AI moves into government operations

Saeed Al Eter, chairman of the UAE Government Media Office, identified agentic AI as a key technology for the next phase of government communications. Unlike traditional AI tools that respond to prompts, agentic AI systems perform tasks autonomously, make decisions within defined parameters, and manage workflows with minimal human oversight.

Al Eter said the technology could help government entities generate real-time content, respond faster during crises, counter misinformation, and reach digital audiences more effectively. "Government communication will become more proactive, more responsive, and ultimately more effective," he said.

Government bodies worldwide are exploring similar applications. AI Agents & Automation are being tested for content creation, customer engagement, operational efficiency, and decision-making across both public and private sectors.

Crisis communication remains central

The meeting included a session from the UAE's National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority on media management during emergencies. Officials described government communication as a strategic function, not a support role, particularly when rapid, accurate information is needed to maintain public trust and counter misinformation.

What the guidelines cover

The Government Media Content Guideline addresses:

  • Editorial planning and message development
  • Written and visual content production
  • Multi-channel distribution
  • Audience-focused content aligned with national objectives

Communication teams also participated in workshops on storytelling, audience engagement, and platform-specific content creation.

The initiative reflects the UAE's broader investment in digital government capabilities. AI for PR & Communications is increasingly becoming part of public sector communication strategy, according to officials.
