WELLSTAR Technologies Launches Nexus AI: A New AI Platform for Canadian Healthcare Providers

WELL Health’s subsidiary, WELLSTAR Technologies, has introduced Nexus AI™, an artificial intelligence platform that offers advanced ambient scribe capabilities with a user-friendly experience. This platform is designed to be the central hub for automated AI features such as disease detection, medical coding, billing automation, and clinical decision support. Nexus AI builds on the success of WELLSTAR’s original AI Scribe, adding significant new functionality.

Developed and hosted in Canada, Nexus AI uses proprietary AI models created by physicians and AI researchers from the University of Toronto and WELL’s subsidiary HEALWELL AI. These models are actively used by thousands of healthcare providers across 20 specialties, including emergency departments and health authorities nationwide. Nexus AI is part of Canada Health Infoway’s AI Scribe Program, which funds one-year licenses for AI scribes to up to 10,000 eligible primary care clinicians, helping improve documentation and streamline workflows.

Nexus AI’s Role in Healthcare Workflow

Nexus AI integrates with popular Canadian Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems to reduce administrative workload and cognitive load for healthcare providers. Its key feature, an AI medical scribe, captures clinical documentation in real-time during patient encounters. It generates draft notes automatically and offers customizable templates suited to each provider’s specialty and documentation preferences.

The AI technology behind Nexus AI is developed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians and researchers and commercialized through WELL’s HEALWELL AI. This technology is already in use by thousands of primary care and specialist physicians across Canada, proving effective in various clinical settings.

Strategic Vision and Future Development

Amir Javidan, CEO of WELLSTAR Technologies, highlighted that Nexus AI is a foundational part of their strategy to integrate AI innovations directly into healthcare workflows. WELLSTAR has built Canada’s largest ecosystem of digital health applications, enabling partners to create AI tools that focus on provider experience.

Nexus AI is built to be compatible with Canada’s diverse EMR systems and is continuously enhanced through partnerships with leading EMR vendors. Beyond ambient scribe functions, the platform aims to expand into features like disease detection for rare and chronic conditions, medical coding, billing automation, and other clinical decision support tools.

The platform emphasizes data residency and sovereignty by being fully hosted and operated in Canada and offers enterprise-grade security. Nexus AI is currently being rolled out across clinics and hospitals nationwide.
