AI agent for laboratory managers

Chemical Inventory and SDS Compliance Agent

An accurate chemical inventory with current safety sheets and storage within limits

Chemical Inventory and SDS Compliance Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Labs must know what chemicals they hold, where and how much, with current safety data sheets, but inventories drift from reality. Each month this agent reconciles the inventory list with purchase records and barcode scans. It finds items with no safety data sheet or one older than three years and links the supplier's latest version. It sums quantities by room and hazard class and checks them against local storage limits, such as flammable liquid limits per room. If a room is over its limit, it suggests moves or disposal and recalculates until every room complies. Peroxide-forming chemicals past their date are marked urgent. The lab manager approves every disposal and move. Edge case: an expired peroxide-forming chemical is found, so the agent marks it urgent for safe disposal by trained staff rather than moving it.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It flags items without current sheets and rooms over storage limits, and ranks by hazard.

  • Sheets older than 3 years refreshed
  • Peroxide formers past date are urgent
  • Storage limits follow local rules

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Storage limits per room
  • SDS age rule
  • Check frequency
  • Hazard classes tracked

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Chemical disposal
  • Moving hazardous items

Hard limits

  • Never instructs anyone to handle chemicals unsafely
  • Safety officer consulted for unknowns

It stops when

  • Done: register current
  • Stop: unknown chemical found, call safety officer

An example run

What happensIn the June check, room B2 held 68 liters of flammable liquids against a 50-liter limit, so the storage check failed. The agent suggested moving 20 liters of ethanol to the solvent store. The lab manager approved, and the recalculation showed 48 liters. It also linked 9 missing safety data sheets and flagged one expired bottle of diethyl ether as urgent for disposal.
