AI agent for operations managers

Lab Inventory Experiment Readiness Agent

Every experiment starts with valid materials and bookings ready.

Lab Inventory Experiment Readiness Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Lab experiments get delayed when a reagent turns out to be missing or expired on the day, or when the equipment is double-booked. This agent runs when an experiment is scheduled. It reads the protocol's material and equipment list and matches each item to current stock, lot numbers and expiry dates. If an item is missing or expired, it looks for a compatible item already documented in the protocol, and otherwise creates a task to order it. It then makes reversible reservations for materials and equipment and rechecks readiness whenever inventory or the schedule changes. The lab manager approves orders and any special handling. Edge case: a reagent that expires during a multi-day experiment counts as expired.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It reserves valid items and releases holds that fail.

  • Only substitutes documented in the protocol are used.
  • Items must stay in date for the whole run.
  • Reservations are reversible.
  • Orders need lab manager approval.

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Inventory and booking systems to read
  • Days before the experiment to check readiness (default 7)
  • Approved substitute list per protocol
  • Who approves orders (default: lab manager)
  • How long reservations hold (default: until the experiment ends)

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Ordering
  • Physical handling
  • Safety sign-off

Hard limits

  • No physical actions.

It stops when

  • Done: ready.

An example run

What happensA cell culture run is scheduled for April 14 to 16. The agent checks 21 items. The check fails on two: the buffer lot expired April 7 and the centrifuge is booked on April 15. It reserves the newer buffer lot and proposes the second centrifuge, then rechecks. One antibody is out of stock, so it creates an order task. The lab manager approves the order.
