Chronic Medication Recheck Agent

Safe long-term medicine use

Chronic Medication Recheck Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Pets on long-term drugs such as NSAIDs, thyroid medicine or seizure medicine need regular exams and bloodwork before refills, and skipped monitoring can cause harm. When a refill request comes in, and once a month for all such patients, this agent checks the last exam and lab dates against the practice's rules for that drug. If monitoring is current, it passes the request to the vet. If not, it drafts an owner message offering a recheck booking and tracks it. It checks that the recheck happened before the next refill is due. The vet approves every refill. Edge case: if an owner cannot come in before the pet runs out, it asks the vet whether a short bridge supply is appropriate, rather than refusing or refilling on its own.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

An example run

What happensOn April 8, a refill request came in for a dog on carprofen. The agent found the last exam 7 months ago and liver values 9 months ago, past the 6-month rule. The check failed, so it drafted a note for the vet and a booking offer. Dr. Paul Hart approved a 2-week bridge refill. The dog's recheck and bloodwork were booked for April 15.
