AI agent for law students
Cold Call Preparation Agent
The student can explain the holding, the reasoning and a changed-facts version of each assigned case.
What it does
Law students are cold called on cases they have read but cannot defend under follow-up questions. This agent reads the assigned case and builds likely questions on the facts, the holding and the reasoning, plus variations on the facts. It asks the student one question at a time, scores each answer against the holding, and repeats on weak points with a different angle. It tracks which concepts are solid and which are not. The student decides when to stop. Edge case: the student states the holding correctly but cannot say why the court rejected the dissent's reading, so the agent drills the reasoning with a new hypothetical.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Student selects the assigned case
- Read the case and extract facts, issue, holding and reasoning
- Build a bank of likely and follow-up questions
- Ask one question at a time
- Score the answer against the holding and reasoning
- Was the answer solid? If not: ask a follow-up from a different angle, or give a hint and repeat. Back to step 4.
- Change one fact and ask how the result changes
- Summarize solid and weak points
- Student decides to stop or repeat weak pointsThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Study summary for the case
How it decides
It scores an answer as solid, partial or weak by comparing it to the holding and reasoning in the case text. It repeats a weak point at least twice with a new angle.
- Score an answer partial when it states the rule but not the reason
- Ask a changed-facts question after two solid answers
- Repeat each weak point at most three times
- Offer a hint after two weak answers
