AI agent for patent agents

Competitor Filing Watch Agent

Relevant competitor filings are found within a week and sent to the client as short alerts.

Competitor Filing Watch Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

New competitor patent publications are noticed late and by chance. This agent searches new publications every week for named competitors and classes, scores relevance to the client's claims, checks family members and drafts alerts. If the search brings too much noise or too little, it adjusts the search terms and tries again. It decides relevance from the overlap between a publication's claims and the client's technology. The patent agent approves what is sent. Edge case: a publication from a competitor's subsidiary matches the client's field but the competitor name is not in the list, so the agent catches it by class and flags the owner.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It scores a publication high when its claims overlap the client's technology and a named or related competitor owns it. It lowers the search breadth when more than 50 results are low relevance.

  • Alert on a publication with a high relevance score
  • Search by class when the owner is unknown
  • Narrow the search when over 50 low-score results appear
  • Check the legal status of cited family members

Make it yours

What keeps you in control

  • Never claim a publication infringes or is valid

It stops when

An example run

What happensThe weekly search returns 120 publications, 74 low relevance. The agent narrows the class list and reruns, getting 38. It scores 4 high. One is from a subsidiary of a listed competitor, caught by class. It checks its family and finds a granted European member. The patent agent approves alerts for 3 and drops 1.
