AI agent for fashion designers

Fabric Sourcing Agent

Fabrics that meet the design, budget and timeline

Fabric Sourcing Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Finding the right fabric means many emails, swatches that arrive weeks apart and quotes in different formats. This agent starts from the design requirements: fiber, weight, hand feel, color, price, minimums, lead time and certifications. It searches the designer's supplier list and sourcing platforms, builds a shortlist and drafts swatch and quote requests for the designer to approve. As swatches, quotes and test reports arrive, it checks each option against the hard requirements, including shrinkage and colorfastness results where available. If no option meets every hard requirement, it drops the failures and searches again with adjusted terms. It then drafts a side-by-side comparison with price, minimums and lead times. The designer chooses and approves any order. Edge case: a fabric with a minimum far above the order quantity is shown with its surcharge option rather than dropped.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

An example run

What happensFor an organic cotton twill needed by October 1, six options came back. Two lacked organic certificates, one had a 12-week lead time against 8 weeks, and one had 5% shrinkage against a 3% limit. The check failed with only one weak option left, so the agent searched again and found a mill with certified twill at $6.80 per meter. The designer approved a 400-meter order.
