AI agent for patent agents
Inventor Interview Question Planning Agent
Leave an inventor interview with the details needed to draft strong claims.
What it does
Inventors describe their idea loosely, and the patent agent can leave the call without details needed for enablement, alternatives or the features that distinguish the invention from prior art. The agent reads the disclosure and the prior art results, lists gaps, and builds a question plan ranked by importance. During the interview, after each answer, it updates the gap list and decides which question to ask next. It marks answered gaps and adds new ones. The patent agent approves the question plan and the final notes. Edge case: the inventor says the part is made of metal, so the agent asks about plastic and composites to cover alternatives.
How it works
Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.
Read the steps as a list
- Inventor interview scheduled
- Read the disclosure and the prior art results
- List gaps in enablement, alternatives and distinguishing features
- Draft a ranked question plan
- Patent agent approves the question planThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Ask the next question and record the answer
- Update the gap list after each answer
- Is the gap closed by the answer? If not: Ask a narrower follow-up on the same gap. Back to step 6.
- Are all high-priority gaps closed? If not: Pick the largest remaining gap and continue. Back to step 6.
- Patent agent approves the final notesThe agent waits here for your OK.
- Interview notes and remaining open questions
How it decides
It lists gaps in enablement, alternatives and distinguishing features. It asks the question that closes the largest gap next and updates the list after every answer.
- High priority gaps are enablement and the distinguishing feature
- Ask about alternatives for every key part
- An answer that raises a new gap adds a question at once
- End when all high priority gaps are closed or time runs out
Make it yours
Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.
- Gap categories
- Maximum questions per interview
- Prior art used to guide questions
- Note format
What keeps you in control
It always asks you first
- Patent agent approves the question plan
- Patent agent approves the final notes
Hard limits
- Never gives legal advice to the inventor
- Never records anything not said by the inventor
It stops when
- Done: high priority gaps closed
- Stop: interview ends with open questions listed
