AI agent for patent agents

Office Action Response Agent

A complete response draft addressing every rejection before the deadline

Office Action Response Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Office actions come with strict deadlines, and a response that misses one rejection or objection can lead to abandonment. When an office action arrives, this agent reads it and lists every rejection and objection with the claims and references cited. It calculates the deadline and extension options. It reads the cited references, charts them against the rejected claims and finds features not disclosed. It drafts argument outlines and amendment options, using only amendments supported by the description. It then checks that every rejection and objection is addressed in the draft. If not, it adds the missing part and checks again. Deadlines within 30 days come first. The patent agent decides strategy and signs. Edge case: the examiner combines three references, so the agent checks the stated reason to combine.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

An example run

What happensAn office action mailed September 3 had 3 rejections and 2 objections. The agent charted the references and found a heat sink feature absent from all of them. The coverage check failed because the first draft missed a drawing objection. The agent added a corrected drawing note and rechecked. The patent agent chose the argument strategy and signed the response.
