Pre-Market Gap Scan Agent

A short, ranked watch list with levels and catalysts, up to date at the open

Pre-Market Gap Scan Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

By 9:30 a.m. a day trader has to review hundreds of stocks that moved overnight and decide which ones are worth watching. Reading headlines and charts for each takes the whole pre-market hour. This agent scans the pre-market movers starting at 7 a.m. and checks the news behind each gap, the pre-market volume, key levels such as the prior high, low and gap fill, and float. It filters by the trader's rules, such as a minimum gap size, volume and price range, and ranks what is left. It writes a plan for the top names with the levels, the catalyst and the conditions that would make the trade valid. As the open approaches, it updates volume and levels and removes names that no longer pass. The trader approves the final watch list. Edge case: a stock gaps on an unconfirmed rumor, and the agent labels the catalyst as weak.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It keeps stocks that meet the trader's gap, volume and price rules, ranks by catalyst strength and relative volume, and drops any name that loses volume or fills its gap early.

  • Keep gaps of 4% or more with pre-market volume over 100,000 shares
  • Grade unconfirmed rumors as weak
  • Drop names that fill the gap before the open
  • Limit the list to 8 names

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

An example run

What happensAt 7:20 the scan found 112 stocks gapping over 4%. After the volume and price rules, 21 remained. The agent graded 6 catalysts strong. By 9:15, three had volume under 100,000 shares, so the check failed. It removed them and reranked. The final list had 8 names with levels for each. The trader approved and removed one.
