AI agent for judges

Recusal and Conflict Screening Agent

Make sure every possible conflict in an assigned case is found and put in front of the judge before any ruling.

Recusal and Conflict Screening Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

A judge or clerk gets a new case assignment and has to be sure nothing in the party list touches a stock holding, a family tie or a former client. A missed conflict can void a ruling later. When a case is assigned, the agent reads the party and counsel list, then checks every name against the judge's disclosure list, prior practice records and financial holdings file. Partial name matches are followed up with other details such as address or company group. When new parties or amicus filers appear, it repeats the check. It lists each possible match with the evidence and drafts a recusal notice only if the judge asks. The judge decides every flag. Edge case: a party named Hartwell Capital matches a fund the judge's spouse holds, found through a parent company link.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

A name that matches exactly or matches a related entity is flagged as likely. A partial match is followed up with extra identifiers and kept as possible if still unclear. The judge makes every decision.

  • Exact name or known affiliate match is flagged as likely
  • Partial match with one matching identifier stays flagged as possible
  • Any holding in a party or its parent is flagged regardless of size
  • Repeat the check within 1 business day of a new filer

Make it yours

Every agent is a starting point. You choose these settings for your own situation.

  • Sources checked (holdings, prior clients, family list)
  • Repeat check timing (default 1 business day)
  • Match strictness for partial names
  • Who receives flags besides the judge

What keeps you in control

It always asks you first

  • Judge decides each flag and any recusal
  • Judge signs any recusal notice

Hard limits

  • Never decides recusal or contacts a party
  • Never shares the judge's holdings outside chambers

It stops when

  • Done: all flags decided and logged
  • Stop: the case is reassigned after recusal

An example run

What happensA contract case listed Hartwell Capital LLC. The first pass found no exact match, but the partial match check on its parent company showed an investment fund in the judge's disclosure file. The agent flagged it as likely with both records attached. The judge reviewed, recused, and signed the notice the agent drafted. Two weeks later a new amicus filer was checked with no matches.
