AI agent for dental hygienists

Sealant and Fluoride Eligibility Agent

Eligible patients receive preventive care at the right visit and the next due date is set.

Sealant and Fluoride Eligibility Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Many eligible children and high-risk adults never get sealants or fluoride because nobody checks eligibility at the right time. The agent reads the charts for age, caries risk and past treatment, finds who is eligible for a sealant or fluoride varnish, and checks the benefit rules, such as age limits or frequency. It builds a list for the hygienist with the reason and the coverage. It drafts a note for the visit. After each visit, it checks that the procedure was recorded and updates the next eligibility date. If the patient was eligible but nothing was recorded, it asks the hygienist why. The hygienist approves the list and any message. Edge case: a tooth that already has a filling is not listed for a sealant.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It matches risk and age to the procedure eligibility and the benefit frequency rules.

  • High caries risk qualifies for fluoride every 3 to 6 months
  • Teeth with a restoration are excluded from sealants
  • Benefit frequency limits are checked
  • Declined care is recorded with a reason

An example run

What happensFor tomorrow's schedule the agent lists 7 eligible patients, including a 7 year old with unsealed molars. It checks the benefit for sealants at age 7 and finds one tooth already has a filling, so it removes it. After the visit, the chart shows the sealants were done but one fluoride varnish was not recorded. It asks the hygienist, who confirms the patient declined.
