AI agent for chief human resources officers

Succession Slate Readiness Agent

Current readiness ratings and actions for every critical role

Succession Slate Readiness Agent: what goes in, what the agent does and what you get

What it does

Critical roles need ready successors, but succession lists often go stale and look better on paper than in reality. This agent keeps the list of critical roles and named successors. Each quarter it pulls each successor's performance, development plan progress and experience, and rates readiness against the role profile. It asks each successor's manager to confirm progress, then checks the answer against development records. If a stated action is not in the records, it asks the manager for evidence or lowers the rating. Roles with no ready-now or ready-soon successor are flagged with options such as an external pipeline or a stretch assignment. It also flags people named for several roles. The HR leader reviews ratings and decides actions with the executive team. Edge case: one person is named successor for four roles, so the agent flags the overlap as a false sense of cover.

How it works

Follow the arrows from top to bottom. The orange dashed arrow is the loop: when a check fails, the agent goes back and tries again.

How it decides

It rates readiness by gaps between successor experience and role profile and flags roles without cover.

  • Ready now, 1 to 2 years, or not ready, based on profile gaps
  • Successors named for more than two roles are flagged
  • Roles without ready cover need an action

An example run

What happensIn the Q3 review, the CFO role had two successors rated ready soon. One manager said a finance rotation was complete, but the learning records showed it had not started. The check failed, so the agent asked for evidence, got none, and changed the rating to ready in two years. The role was flagged without ready cover, and the HR leader approved an external pipeline search.
