About Epho

Epho is a cloud agent API that runs Claude Code, Codex, or Opencode in managed cloud sandboxes. It launched this week as an agents-as-an-API product. The service handles sandbox provisioning, agent configuration, repo cloning, and event streaming behind a single POST request.

Review

Epho came out of the founders' work building an AI analyst, where they had to configure bare sandboxes for agentic workloads and build integrations for each agent. The product wraps those operational concerns into one API call. It's a straightforward utility for developers who want to run coding agents without managing the infrastructure themselves.

Key Features

  • POST a message and stream back the work; no SDK, daemon, or infrastructure on your side
  • Spins up cloud sandboxes with Claude Code, Codex, or Opencode pre-configured
  • Connects your repos and attaches files so the agent starts with context
  • Automatic fallbacks across different sandbox providers to avoid failures
  • Uses your own API keys for Anthropic, OpenAI, or Opencode; you pay only for infrastructure per second

Pricing and Value

Epho charges for infrastructure per second, not per token. You supply your own API keys, so token costs go directly to your provider. New users get $10 free after email verification, which the maker says covers many hours of compute. You can also start with Opencode's free models without any API key. The pricing model is defined and public.

Pros

  • Single API call replaces a stack of sandbox configuration and agent integration work
  • Multi-provider fallback logic is built in, so a provider outage doesn't kill a session
  • Repo context is attached before the agent starts, which makes the session more useful than a blank workspace
  • No per-token markup; infra billing aligns your cost with actual compute used
  • Free tier lets you test without committing an API key

Cons

  • You manage your own provider keys, so billing and rate limits come from multiple vendors
  • Custom environments with specific software installations (like .NET) are not addressed in the current docs; you may need to handle that yourself
  • Not well suited for teams that want a fully managed, no-code agent platform; Epho assumes you can work with an API and handle your own agent configuration

Epho fits developers who already use Claude Code, Codex, or Opencode and want to run those agents remotely against their repos. It also works for product teams building agent features into their own applications. The product is new, so expect the feature set to evolve, but the core API is live and usable today.
