by justinscott12

Let your AI search Modrinth and publish your Minecraft mods for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Modrinth, the popular place where Minecraft mods live. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to look up mods, check version details, or even publish a new version of your own mod. It is handy for mod makers and anyone who spends time browsing Modrinth.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Modrinth, so it can search projects, read details, and publish mods when you ask. You do not need to understand how it works inside; you just add it once and then talk to your AI normally.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like "find me a mod that adds new biomes" or "publish this jar as version 1.2 of my mod". Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to Modrinth's website on your behalf. Modrinth sends back the results, like a list of matching mods or a confirmation that your version was uploaded. Your AI then shows you that answer in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Search Modrinth for mods by name or keyword
  • Look up details about a specific mod project
  • List all published versions of a mod
  • Create a new mod project page as a draft
  • Upload a built jar file as a new version of your mod
  • Edit the details of an existing version
  • Check that your Modrinth login token is working

Try asking your AI

  • “Search Modrinth for mods that add new biomes to Minecraft”
  • “Show me the details for the mod called sodium”
  • “List all versions of my mod project”
  • “Upload this jar as version 1.2.0 of my mod for Minecraft 1.20.1”

What it gives back to you

For searches and lookups, you get back a list or a summary in the chat: mod names, descriptions, download counts, version numbers, and similar details. When you publish something, you get a confirmation that the project or version was created, along with its new page link or ID. Nothing is changed on Modrinth unless you clearly ask for a write action.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Modrinth account
  • A Modrinth Personal Access Token (a kind of password you create on the Modrinth site for apps to use)
  • Node.js installed on your computer (the helper runs through a tool called npx)
  • An AI app that supports MCP, like Claude Desktop or Claude Code

Good to know

Creating a project or version publishes real public content on Modrinth, so only ask for those when you truly mean to publish.
