Steam MCP server

by Sarg338

Ask your AI about Steam games, prices, reviews, sales, and your own library, friends, and playtime.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Steam, the big game store and gaming platform. Once it is set up, you can just ask questions in plain words and get real answers about games, prices, reviews, and your own account. It is handy for anyone who buys or plays games on Steam and wants quick answers without clicking around the store.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Steam, so it can look up game details, prices, reviews, and your account info for you. You ask in normal words, and the helper fetches the real information from Steam.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about Steam, like whether a game is worth buying or what is on sale. The AI uses this helper to talk to Steam's public store and web services. The helper sends back the facts it finds, such as prices, review scores, player counts, or your own playtime. Then the AI turns that into a clear answer in your chat. It only reads information, so it never buys, trades, or changes anything on your account.

What you can do with it

  • Check if a game is worth buying with price, reviews, and tags
  • See what is on sale right now and what the top sellers are
  • Find out how many people are playing a game this minute
  • Check if a game runs well on your Steam Deck
  • Look at your library, backlog, and playtime
  • See which of your friends own or are playing a game
  • Plan a co-op night with games you and your friends all own

Try asking your AI

  • “Is Baldur's Gate 3 worth buying, and how are its recent reviews trending?”
  • “What co-op games are on sale under 20 dollars right now?”
  • “How many people are playing Helldivers 2 this minute?”
  • “Will Hades II run properly on my Steam Deck?”

What it gives back to you

You get back clear answers in your chat, like a short buying brief, a list of games on sale, a player count, or a summary of your library. It can also show side-by-side comparisons of games, review trends over time, and which achievements you are missing. Everything comes back as text you can read, not as files or downloads. It never changes anything on Steam, only reads.

Before you start

What you need

  • The uv tool installed on your computer (a free helper for running small programs)
  • A free Steam Web API key if you want your own library, friends, playtime, or achievements (the Steam website gives you one in a minute)
  • Your Steam name or profile link if you want the AI to default to your account

Good to know

It only reads information and never buys, trades, or changes anything, but your Steam profile needs to be public for the account tools to work.

Install it with your AI

Add Steam MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Steam MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,361 MCP servers here for you.
