2025 Smart Construction Challenge: Driving Innovation in Construction Technology

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on August 11th the launch of the 2025 Smart Construction Challenge. This event aims to identify and promote advanced smart construction technologies that can boost safety, productivity, and quality in the construction industry.

Now in its sixth edition, the Smart Construction Challenge is a collaborative effort involving various public institutions. It oversees competitions across five key areas:

  • Safety management
  • Dwellings
  • Roads
  • Railways
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Competition Details and Awards

Each field will award one Grand Innovation Award winner who will receive 30 million won and the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award. Additionally, three teams in each category will receive the Public Institution Head Award with a cash prize of 10 million won each. The total prize pool across all categories is 300 million won.

Focus Areas for 2025

  • Safety Management: Technologies aimed at preventing worker falls and improving safety during construction and facility maintenance.
  • Dwellings: AI-based smart construction methods focused on enhancing productivity, quality, and safety in residential building projects.
  • Roads: Prefabrication techniques combined with smart construction equipment like Machine Guidance and Machine Control to push automation in road construction.
  • Railways: AI and big data-driven smart construction technologies designed specifically for railway infrastructure.
  • BIM: Application technologies that utilize Building Information Modeling for efficient building construction management.

Support and Exposure for Winning Technologies

Technologies awarded the Grand Innovation Award will receive broad support to promote practical adoption. This includes bonus points when selecting smart construction enterprises, priority for field technology verification, and assistance with opening sales channels in public institutions.

Winners will also showcase their innovations at the 2025 Smart Construction Expo, taking place from November 5 to 7 at KINTEX in Ilsan. This event provides a platform for industry professionals and the public to engage with the latest smart construction technologies.

How to Participate

Corporations interested in joining the Smart Construction Challenge can download the application form from the official challenge homepage. Completed applications must be submitted via email by August 29th.
