Grand Rapids Insurance Firm Acrisure to Cut 2,250 Jobs

Acrisure, a Grand Rapids-based insurance and fintech company, will eliminate 2,250 positions over the next year-about 11% of its workforce. CEO Greg Williams cited AI for Insurance and technology advancements as the reason for the restructuring, which will primarily affect U.S.-based employees.

The layoffs will occur in phases through 2027. The company previously warned in October of 400 cuts beginning in 2026, mostly in accounting roles.

Why the Cuts?

In a letter to staff, Williams said the company must shift how work gets done, not just reorganize existing operations. He pointed to AI Agents & Automation as tools to reduce manual work and create faster, more consistent outcomes.

"Advances in technology, AI, and digital platforms are fundamentally changing how businesses operate, how clients expect to be served, and how value is created," Williams wrote. He added that Acrisure made its first scaled AI investment in 2020 and must accelerate that pace to stay competitive.

The company plans to focus on employees collaborating with technology platforms, using data and automation to build digital capabilities.

What Affected Employees Get

Williams said the company will provide comprehensive severance, extended benefits "for a period of time," and dedicated outplacement support to departing staff.

"This decision affects colleagues who have contributed meaningfully to building Acrisure, and was not taken lightly," he wrote.
