Actionstep Launches AI Center of Excellence to Support Law Firms

Actionstep, a prominent provider of cloud-based law firm management software used by nearly 5,000 law firms worldwide—including about 2,000 in North America—has launched a dedicated AI Center of Excellence. This initiative focuses on integrating AI expertise, establishing AI best practices for law firm management, and developing a forward-looking roadmap that embeds AI throughout its platform.

The roadmap was shaped by direct feedback from law firms and market surveys targeting midsize firms. It addresses the challenge many legal practices face in adopting AI effectively to improve legal work, business operations, and client service. Actionstep is also tackling concerns around workflow disruption, data security, and maintaining the quality of AI-generated outputs, especially when using disconnected AI and automation tools.

AI-Driven Product Enhancements Tailored for Legal Practices

Actionstep’s product roadmap integrates automation, Agentic AI, and Generative AI into nearly every new feature. Users can choose whether to apply AI to specific tasks, ensuring flexibility and control. Key AI-driven features either available now or in development include:

  • Scout AI Support Agent – An AI assistant designed to save time and boost productivity by providing instant support within the Actionstep Practice Management platform.
  • Business Intelligence & Predictive Analytics – Offers AI-powered insights into firm performance and profitability through visual dashboards and customizable reports.
  • Document Intelligence & Data Extraction – Enables AI-assisted processing such as data extraction from documents, tagging, filing, and automating data workflows.
  • AI-Powered API & Integrations – Connects users to a curated ecosystem of AI tools including time tracking, generative AI, and voice-to-text dictation.
  • Contextual AI Search & Summarization – Provides advanced search capabilities across clients, matters, files, and documents, along with AI-generated summaries and matter insights.
  • AI-Enhanced Adaptive Workflows – Supports matter and task management with dynamic workflow automation and AI agents that recommend improvements based on past case and client data.

There is a clear demand among law firms for AI solutions that complement human workflows rather than replace them. Many firms are looking beyond just generative AI content tools toward task-specific AI and automation that fit how legal teams operate daily.

Building AI Expertise and Infrastructure

To support these AI initiatives, Actionstep has expanded its team and technology investments. They recently appointed Franco Primavesi as Senior Director of AI Product Management. With his extensive SaaS product management experience, Primavesi will lead the development and delivery of AI solutions that address law firm operations and legal practice management.

Actionstep’s commitment includes enhancing its AI infrastructure and growing engineering resources to build practical and secure AI features tailored for the legal sector.
