AI-Driven Platform Streamlines Scientific Data Standardization at NASA

NASA Ames AI/ML Seminar Series – An AI-Powered Platform for Standardizing Scientific Data

The Exobiology Branch at NASA Ames Research Center invites the science and research community to join its monthly artificial intelligence and machine learning virtual seminar. These sessions focus on practical AI applications in scientific research and data management. Recorded seminars are available on the AI-ML Astrobiology YouTube channel for those unable to attend live.

Upcoming Seminar Details

  • Date and Time: August 12th, 11 AM PDT / 2 PM EDT
  • Speaker: Dr. Walt Alvarado, Space Biosciences Research Branch, NASA Ames Research Center
  • Topic: An AI-Powered Platform for Standardizing Scientific Data

Dr. Alvarado will present on a newly developed generative AI tool that streamlines the standardization of biological datasets. These datasets are often inconsistent and unstructured, which complicates data comparison, aggregation, and reuse across experiments.

The platform uses a curator-in-the-loop method, allowing subject matter experts to collaborate directly with multiple large language models (LLMs). This approach automates the generation of structured summaries from unstructured files and supports header-level data inference. It also accelerates the creation of curated entries in NASA’s Open Science Data Repository (OSDR).

The system integrates smoothly with NASA's data workflows but is adaptable for other scientific repositories. It enhances the accessibility and consistency of technical metadata. A complementary conversational agent facilitates data exploration and retrieval of curated content, promoting transparency and collaboration within the research community.

For researchers interested in practical AI tools and platforms that improve scientific data management, this seminar offers valuable insights. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how AI can assist in handling heterogeneous biological datasets effectively.
