NerdzFactory and Raspberry Pi Foundation Launch AI Training for Over 3,000 Nigerian Teachers

NerdzFactory Company and the Raspberry Pi Foundation have teamed up to roll out Experience AI in Nigeria, a significant programme funded by Google.org. This initiative focuses on building essential AI skills by training 3,150 secondary school teachers across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti states.

Once trained, these educators will bring AI literacy to more than 157,000 students, equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge to thrive in an AI-driven future.

Preparing Nigeria for AI’s Economic Potential

Nigeria is positioning itself to benefit from AI’s economic impact. According to a report by Public First, AI could contribute up to $15 billion to the country’s economy by 2030. Achieving this depends on nurturing local talent capable of developing and applying AI technologies responsibly.

Experience AI supports Nigeria’s national AI strategy and complements the N2.8 billion investment announced by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy in 2024. The programme translates government plans into actionable learning experiences in classrooms, moving Nigeria closer to becoming a leader in AI across Africa.

About the Experience AI Programme

The curriculum was co-created by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a UK-based charity promoting computing education, and Google DeepMind, known for advancing responsible AI development. It offers teachers free, ready-made lesson plans, interactive activities, and clear explanations of core AI and machine learning concepts.

Since its global launch in April 2023, Experience AI has reached around 1.5 million students worldwide.

How Training Will Be Delivered

NerdzFactory leads the implementation in Nigeria, conducting teacher training and coordinating with schools and education stakeholders. The programme runs through December 2026, aligned with Nigeria’s academic calendar.

Efforts are focused on public schools, especially in rural, low-income, and underserved communities, through collaboration with state education ministries.

The training uses a blended approach:

  • Approximately 70% online via live sessions and digital resources
  • About 30% in-person workshops to provide hands-on experience, particularly where internet access is limited

Teachers will receive ongoing support throughout the programme to ensure effective learning and teaching.
