“We started by using it with read-aloud books where kids would chat with characters via AI,” Rowe explained. “Then, we used it as a peer editor to help students improve their writing.”

At the high school level, library media specialist Erin Cassaro guides students in using AI tools for research and writing. She notes that AI accelerates information gathering in a way similar to web searches but with more structure. Teaching students to interact critically with AI-generated content is part of the learning process.

Kathy Parker-Jones, coordinator of digital and personalized learning, stresses that critical thinking remains the key skill when using AI. She advises students to maintain their own voice and not over-rely on AI when writing or analyzing information.
