NeGD Launches ‘AI in Governance’ Training Programme for Government Officials at IIT Delhi

The National e-Governance Division (NeGD), part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), recently initiated a two-day training programme titled ‘Artificial Intelligence in Governance’. Hosted at the Department of Management Studies (DMS), IIT Delhi, the sessions ran from June 26 to 27, 2025.

The training programme was inaugurated by Shri Rajnish Kumar, COO & Director of NeGD, Shri Sunil Sharma, Director of NeGD, and Prof. Surya Prakash Singh, Head of DMS at IIT Delhi. Fifty-nine officers from Central Ministries, State Departments, and other government bodies took part in this focused event.

Building AI Skills for Effective Public Service

This workshop forms part of the Capacity Building Scheme Phase III (CB Phase III) under the Digital India Programme. Its objective is to equip government officials with practical skills and knowledge to apply AI responsibly in governance.

The curriculum covers:

  • AI policy frameworks
  • Ethical and legal considerations
  • Digital transformation strategies
  • Practical AI applications in public service delivery

Sessions combined interactive discussions and group exercises, helping participants relate AI concepts directly to their departmental work. This approach ensures that AI is integrated with real-world administrative challenges and opportunities.

Supporting India’s Digital Governance Goals

NeGD leadership emphasized that this initiative is a step toward providing government officials with the tools necessary for ethical and strategic AI use in public administration.

The collaboration with IIT Delhi balances academic insights with hands-on relevance, reinforcing India’s commitment to building a future-ready public service system. As AI becomes more common in governance globally, training programmes like this help public institutions adopt technology confidently and responsibly.
